LEAP to HostFederation of International Ninja Athletics World Championship Qualifier Competition October 2-3

LEAP Ninja Warrior Gym in Laramie will host a competition as part of the Federation of International Ninja Athletics (FINA) Season II. The competition weekend will serve as a last chance qualifying opportunity for athletes aspiring to earn a spot in the FINA World Championships in Buffalo, NY.

During the competition weekend of October 2-3, 2021, athletes will have the chance to compete in two different categories – speed or endurance – or they can compete in both competitions.

The endurance competition will take place Saturday, October 2. Designed to test grip strength, the endurance competition consists of 12 obstacles that will test an athlete’s ability to push through the pain and hang on until there is nothing left in the tank. Athletes competing in the endurance category can qualify for the World Championships by completing all 12 obstacles at the event. Alternatively, athletes that have competed in other FINA Endurance competitions throughout the season and accumulated points for obstacles completed, have the chance to punch their ticket to the World Championships if they collect 31 points throughout the season.

The speed competition, which will be held on Sunday, October 3, consists of 8 obstacles that athletes must complete in a race against the clock. Hopeful ninjas must complete the course before the clock runs out in order to earn an automatic spot in the World Championships, or they can accumulate 21 points throughout the season of FINA events for obstacles completed before the clock runs out.

We are really excited to host this event,” says LEAP owner Derek Mitchum. “The timing is such that this competition is like a last chance qualifier. We anticipate ninja athletes from around the region will come to Laramie with hopes of qualifying for the World Championships.”

Ninjas of all ages are invited to compete. Anticipated time slots and age groups for each day include:

   Ages 7 and Under (7U) – 9:00 am

   Ages 9 and Under (9U) – 10:00 am

   Ages 11 and Under (9U) – 11:00 am

   Ages 13 and Under (13U) – 12:00 pm

  Ages 15 and Under (15U) – 1:00 pm

   Adults 16+ and Masters 40+ – 2:00 pm

Athletes interested in competing and sign up through the FINA website, or directly here. There is a $45 registration fee to compete in either the speed or endurance competition or athletes can register to compete in both competitions at the discounted rate of $59.00.

The Season II World Championships will take place in Buffalo, NY October 16 & 17, 2021.  With some exciting changes in store, athletes will get even more chances to bring home the Championship belt as FINA Season II All-Around winner.

“We invite members of the community to come and watch the competition,” says Mitchum. “LEAP already has one athlete qualified for Buffalo and we know there is a good chance we will qualify more kids and adults at this competition.  We want to support our growing ninja team and it would be awesome to have more kids qualify and make the trip to Buffalo.”
